WHO WE ARE:

WHO WE ARE:
WELCOME & MISSION STATEMENT
There is no longer Jew or Greek, there is no longer slave or free, there is no longer male and female; for all of you are one in Christ Jesus. (Galatians 3:28)
All are welcome at Gethsemane where we are engaged by God in a Living Faith: at Home, at Church, and in the World.
We are committed to the hard work of learning to be actively welcoming to people of all backgrounds regardless of race, ability, sexual orientation or gender identity and expression. We recognize and affirm that all are wonderfully and beautifully made by God.
We are committed to educating ourselves and actively identifying our biases, conscious and unconscious, systemic or personal. We do this because all things that separate us from loving each other also separate us from God.
WE WELCOME EVERYONE
exactly as God created you and we celebrate you as you are.
No caveats. No exceptions.
We worship God with anyone and everyone who chooses to join us. We find strength in our diversity and strive on our commonalities while celebrating our differences.
We welcome people of all races, ethnicities, backgrounds and physical and mental abilities.
We welcome people of all generations.
We welcome people of all sexual orientations and gender identities and their involvement in all aspects of our church.
We welcome people of all political affiliations.
WE BELIEVE IN GOD
God creates, saves, and sustains us and Jesus is the clearest picture we have of God. The Holy Spirit enlivens us each day to live as the body of Christ in the world.
[Jesus said,] “When the Advocate comes, whom I will send to you from the Father, the Spirit of truth who comes from the Father, he will testify on my behalf.” (John 15:26)
This is an unearned gift from God. We do not deserve God's grace but we humbly accept it.
For by grace you have been saved through faith, and this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God—not the result of works so that no one may boast. (Ephesians 2:8-9)
Peter said to them, “Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ so that your sins may be forgiven; and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. For the promise is for you, for your children, and for all who are far away, everyone whom the Lord our God calls to him.” (Acts 2:38-39)
Jesus said to them, “I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never be hungry, and whoever believes in me will never be thirsty.” (John 6:35)
There is no substitute for prayer -- simple, candid, one-on-one conversations with God. There is no wrong way to pray.
Do not worry about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. (Philippians 4:6)
As Jesus instructed in the Greatest Commandment, we should love the Lord our God with all our heart, soul, and mind, and love our neighbor as we love ourselves.
And one of them, a lawyer, asked him a question to test him. “Teacher, which commandment in the law is the greatest?” He said to him, “’You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind.’ This is the greatest and first commandment. And a second is like it: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’” (Matthew 22:35-40)
WE VALUE
God calls leaders of all genders and orientations, and we affirm their leadership in our church, without restriction or limitation.
Giving and serving are paramount to our faith, and we provide a wide variety of service opportunities for all ages. We encourage all who call Gethsemane home to serve their communities beyond the church walls.
We have ministries and programs available to help you follow the Way of Christ more deeply as we seek to pray, worship, study scripture, serve and do justice, share, steward, and build spiritual friendships.
We strive to provide ample learning opportunities for everyone on Sundays and throughout the week.
As individuals and as a community, we value honest and direct communication. We encourage healthy communication and seek to be open and clear in all God calls us to do.
